Barry is a licensed psychologist, in practice since 1994. Barry received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has made his profession in campus mental health, working at Auburn, Purdue, UCONN, Princeton, and Iowa. Barry works with adults, using a cognitive and interpersonal process framework, which means the focus is on how you think about your world as a key inroad to making desired changes. Barry also uses the counseling relationship as an indicator of how you navigate in your world and how you can make relationships work better for you. He believes that who you are culturally makes a significant difference in how you navigate the world, and that cultural identities are also a significant part of the work. Barry has expertise working with gay, lesbian, bi, and queer issues and concerns. He is a gender specialist, having worked for decades with Trans, gender non-binary, gender fluid, and gender queer communities’ issues and concerns. He also has expertise working with anxiety, depression, interpersonal concerns, relationship growth, stress management, mindfulness development, loss and grief, trauma processing, emotional regulation, self-esteem and confidence, and other concerns. Barry sees counseling as an exciting, exploratory, and powerfully growth-filled process and looks forward to engaging in this healing process with you! And don't forget, a little humor helps!
