Meadowlark clinicians are highly trained, Independently Licensed providers offering a broad range of comprehensive, outpatient mental health services. They are also kind, caring providers focused on your comfort, your goals, and your long-term success.

What to Expect During Your Session

Meadowlark offers both in-patient and telehealth appointments. Regardless of the format, your session is about you and your clinician will get to know you by listening to your unique experiences, understanding your challenges, and identifying your desired outcomes. You may notice your clinician taking notes, which is a standard practice in healthcare. What you share is confidential and protected by HIPAA privacy laws.

At the end of your session, your clinician may wrap up by summarizing some of the key points and takeaways you discussed. From there they will return to the front desk with you where you can schedule your next appointment and check-out.

Arriving For Your In-Person Appointment

When you arrive at your local Meadowlark clinic for your in-person session, you will be greeted by our front desk staff. They will help you get checked in for your appointment, which includes filling out any paperwork required for your service. For patients under the age of 18, a parent or guardian will need to be present for the initial visit. If you are using insurance, you will also need a copy of your insurance card. They will also go over Meadowlark’s policies and procedures, HIPAA, and No Surprises Act compliance and can answer any other questions you have. After you’re checked in, your clinician will come and meet you in the waiting room.

Note for North Liberty Patients: Our North Liberty clinic is divided between two adjacent buildings. Patients should go to Building #1 to get you checked in, and then staff will direct you to your clinician’s waiting area.

The following clinicians are in Building #2: Monica Schmidt, Elizabeth Clark, Emily Michener, Jillian Polaski, Ian Kerns, Jennifer Drew, Jessica Royal, Rachel Epley, and Michael Markham. All other clinicians are located in Building #1.

Logging In For Your Telehealth Appointment

Meadowlark clinicians use a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted platform called “doxy.me” to connect virtually with telehealth patients. When it’s time for your scheduled appointment, go to your clinician’s page and click on the button that says, “START A TELEMEDICINE CALL.”

You will be redirected to your provider’s doxy.me portal and prompted to type in your name. Click “Check In” to alert your clinician that you’re ready for your appointment. Once they are available, they will start the virtual session.

Additional Tips for a Positive Experience

Be honest with your therapist if you don’t feel like it’s a good fit.

Therapists want your services to be effective. If you aren’t feeling a strong connection to your provider or the methods they are introducing, let them know! They may even be able to provide some recommendations on colleagues that better fit your personality or desired approach.

Bring a list of topics you want to cover in your session.

We’ve all been there — you get to session and suddenly you’re drawing a blank on everything that you’ve been wanting to talk about. Help get the most out of your time by jotting down talking points between sessions. You can do this in a notepad or on your phone, whichever is easier to remember and accessible when these topics pop up.
